Will be good to see ya in a few - maybe you can slap me upside the head because I am actually starting to totally freak out now lol
@davidcotyalex Relax dude, just relax
@wolfie is there any shows you are not seeing ?
Have fun all of you, if anyone manages to score us some more audio of Birds then that would be fabulous !
Only a 6 hour flight, and I am not there.... what the hell is wrong with me?
Ah well, I will live !
DCA, don't tempt me...
Nevermind, wish you were here! Marcel, you, too. But there's a pretty little girl who is glad you're not! And just for the record I was not in San Francisco!
Couple more hours... be safe getting there, everyone, because the weather is dreadful!
Holly Mother of God, if the concert is as amazing as the weather has been dreadful all day today, we are in for an unforgettable event tonight! Sooo pumped, it has been an amazing day and looking forward to a night on fire!! Hoping to pick up my ticket anytime after 5:30pm.... Which is like NOW!!! Holly crap
To everyone going tonight HAVE A BLAST!!! I can't wait to crawl out of bed in the morning and go to my last day of work before I leave for my trip. See you Grayheads in Boston!
Well let me tell you, this was SOME show... As in the best damn DG show I have ever seen. The venue was interesting to say the least, the theater itself was perched up on the 7th floor of the building. The concert started with Gulls im pretty sure (or was second song). The rendition was flawless and as generous and haunting in a live format as it was expected. Then came Back to The World Again and I couldnt help but chuckle a bit thinking about the thread we had going here and YES it was more upbeat and definitely catchier as a live song. About 80-90% of the concert was all new stuff, most of it amazing... This song Crows which came before Muniteers was very catchy with a great beat... Another amazing song with that haunting line "baby say that it wasnt true..." was beyond fantastic (was that Birds?). A few members of the audience were pretty vocal about asking DG to play some of his old stuff, which seemed to amuse him at first but which got him frustrated after a while because his main intent was to introduce his new material. Among the "older" material came a ridiculously good version of Kathleen with an unexpected creshendo at the end, Babylon, Sail Away, Shine and a really emotional version of Nemesis to close the show (I know Im missing at least one).
Now for the coolest part of the show. I personally started in row I. Was in row C by the end of the first song. Halfway into the concert, this giddy and inhybriated girl decided to walk all the way to the front of the stage and make a spectacle of herself. She was both amusing and endearing and a little disrespectful to DG at the same time, people kept looking at each other with that WTF look on their face. But then, it happened... After one song, 5 more people joined her then five more, withing a few more minutes people decided to charge onward as in two feet away from the band. How did David feel about it? It's hard to say. Two girls who were front row with me said that he doesnt typically care for it... Honestly, I could see that point of you, I am not sure what security was paid for tonight and things looked a little bit out of conteol at one point... On the other end, what an amazing and spontaneous testament of spontaneity from the fans.. In any case, it was insanely intimate, David was extraordinary and so was his band (kudos to the cellist / pianist) and back vocals. DG on the Kelly show tomorrow morning... Will load up some videos in the am... A roady threw me DG's towel while I was asking for a copy of the song list, lol. This all made for quite a memorable evening.
New York - April 30, 2014
Back in the World
As the Crow Flies
Girl Like You
Snow In Vegas
Birds of the High Arctic
of those that have been with me this has been probably the greatest week of my life............again whattaburger with josiah in waco just rocked my world
i didn't know what to expect at all coming into this and with murphy's law coming ino fold was stressed right up to the 6pm + hour............and this weather?!
but I saw the greatest eyes of the greatest dg fan ever and all was good with the world.................and we chilled to a beer in the bar.........to be joined by rob who relayed a similar **** me to the day but also conquering the worst lol
so we hoisted and moved on............a crowded house and little time put us into our seats...........8th row left center with some unoccupied house seats left me very comfy to stroll and get a tad silly.................no real dancing thru the night if i recall
i spent the first 60 minutes absolutely mesmerized.......it was absolutely sickingly amazing!!!!!!!
I am sorry but THIS SHITE IS UNREAL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I spent half the time apologizing to Maria for missing it with her
late night stupidity etc etc etc lots of hugs lots of kisses etc ...........but the greatest point of the entire eve was watching wolfie engaged in discussion with the man.........melissa I am honored to be your friend and I hope you aren't too pissed at me with the attention - because you deserve it sister and i am so happy to facilitate - as you are the real deal......................#onelove
oh birds of the high artic................**** me now
but as the crow flys or whatever it is called is absolutely alibi territory!!!!!!!!
more thoughts tomorrow but on to boston.........................enjoy philly!
band is awesome......................and niah??!! oh my goodness!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
David's NYC Instagram says it all. That crowd behavior tonight was ridiculous and the lack of security was appalling. Totally unprofessional. The overzealous security in DC one night and then no security in NYC the next. Geez.... I also had people talking a lot during the show (including quiet parts) and then that insane stage rush... ugh.
Will have more thoughts later today but every time I near the new stuff I love it more. And more. And more. I'm so thankful David decided to embark on this tour and to come out and boldly debut the album like this. I already find myself singing along to the new songs. That album release date can't come soon enough!
DCA... well, one little "drink?" email and suddenly the whole night changed for me. Thanks for reaching out today and for dragging me through the rabbit hole. You know I will never forget tonight. Oh, and I knew you'd love Niahm. Lovely girl inside and out! See you in Boston!
haha on niahm...................nice view from the instagram lol
Link to "Gulls". Iphone 4 doesnt zoom in for video which is a drag... Enjoy!
Why play theatres when you got drunk housewifes rushing to the stage? Time to play some Europe shows, David, never heard anything bad from Switzerland, Sweden etc!
I still haven't listened to any of the new material from the videos, all this praise and wait is driving me nuts! Also, I know I will get a ton of shit for this, but am I the only one who's not really excited at all to see Kathleen on the setlist regularly?
There really has to be a way to strike a balance between security going overboard to the point that it distracts not only the audience but the performers as well (DC) and security that stands there and does nothing while swarms of people rush the stage (NYC). Tacoma was pretty balanced so I guess it can be done. Very frustrating on both ends of the spectrum. I'm sorry for David for what happened last night. Not cool!
Not really sure of the need last night for people to be yelling out things about the Rangers. Great that you're a fan and all but last night was about DG. Wrong place, wrong time. Also, as I mentioned, there was just a lot of general chatter all around me throughout the night. Stop talking and listen. It's not that tough.
Last night was a night when I probably would have been happy to just hear the new music. That part of the night was okay as the crowd was still behaving somewhat orderly. And the new music did sound fantastic last night. Girl Like You stood out for me as it's a very fun song live and I love to see them having a good time up there. Back in the World was another highlight. And, of course, Birds of the High Arctic which for some reason has just hit me like a ton of bricks this tour. I have to give kudos to David for coming out for the encore and doing Laughing Gas. In the face of that mess up front it was a bold move.
Just not one of my favorite shows but it was very cool to have witnessed DCA getting all choked up about the new songs. He enjoyed the show and that bolstered my spirits a lot. And of course I'd rather be at a DG show in a bad venue with a bad crowd than anywhere else in the world!
Drunk housewifes??? LOL.
The party by the stage was very good-hearted, people were enthused and having a ball they wanted to see and hear from up close but knew their limits as far as I could witness. The only drunks I saw last night was that tipsy tall guy with the baritone voice sitting by the aisle a few rows back like F-I and obsessing over some song he wanted to hear, he even called DG "you son of a *****": THAT is disrespectful and Security should have escorted his a$$ out probto. I gave him the eye and asked him to pls refreign but no point in talking sense with someone who is drunk. Yes there were a number of questionable comments here and there but i have no idea where that drunken housewife reference is coming from. The party happening in front of the stage was in good taste, exhuberant yes but people did get quiet when needed... And plenty of men there from what I could see... ;0)
Oh DG ROCKED "Back In The World Again" on the Kelly and Michael show this morning. Better rendition than last night even! More up tempo and really believing every word of it....i am slowly but surely getting into this song, naked as a tree and all!!!!
so..................the palooza-fest rolls on
what a night....................I mean seriously
highlights for me were gulls, incredible, as the crow flies, mutineers, cake (haha), girl like you, fugitive sail and nemesis
great spending time with caroline and letting her know she is a goddess lol - she is soooooo nice............I made a complete *** of myself (go figure) with Niahm but whatever. And really just nice to catch up with so many....................so thanks to all especially rob who is just sheer genius
rather than write my standard follow up of this and that I figured I would share my live "tweeting" from last night.............I say that because I don't normally tweet too much but i do jam friend's feeds on the book
so here goes............apparently i didn't mind the stage rush lol
