Here is an older intimate and touching Song David played in 2012 but also during his sounding out tour 2013/14

from Marcel taken on the Sundance

and from the dingle session with Lisa O'Neil - but only the audio.. :(

I guess it will be one of this unreleased tracks, because it's not on Mutineers, like alive and all the love... And all the others. I hope they will make it together on a b-side record. And this I imagine would be sold out as fast as possible...

Ahhh, sorry! I was dreaming again ;)

John, thanks for posting the audio from Dingle. I love this song so much. It really is one of my favorite songs of David's ever. I have to believe (okay, I have to hope!) that it is released someday. Maybe album after this one (*fingers crossed*). Going to go listen to it again. :)

Anyone got the lyrics for it? Some parts are difficult to make out........

    Lyrics:

I had but half a (or from) life
    Before I went with you
Up to the roof and dived
    Into the starry blue
Over the lights of the town
Dancing with both feet off the ground

    To see what’s so cynical
    Throw off it's hearts disguise
    To witness a miracle
    Through my own bloodshot eyes
    Floating like leaves swirling round
Dancing with both feet off the ground

    Baby I like your style
    And with the flying sparks
Come on let’s walk a while
On through the ?????? dark (HELP???!!!!!!)
    No more the old regrets
No more the doubt in me
The best hasn’t happened yet - No
No so let for that old debris - Yeah
No more the fear holding down
Dancing with both feet lifted off the ground

Gambling it all too much, to take - Yeah
    Gambling it all too much

    Lying alone with you
It’s funny the way I get
    A kind of nostalgia for
    What’s not even happened yet
    We're in an altered state
We're not really here as such
    Smashing through armor plate
    With only the merest touch
    We climbed the winding stair
    Into the world of dreams
    We read what’s written there
We all just know what it means
No more the fear holding down
Dancing with both feet off the ground
No more the fear holding down
Dancing with both feet lifted off the broken, stony ground

    ......................................................................(speechless) .........................................................................

It's such a brilliant song.. brilliant lyrics!! Need some help there to correct them! Sadly the song does not fit on Mutineers.. Maybe it's on the next record then..

    Otherwise I've got an Idea:
This song would be the perfect christmas present for me and all other Grayheads and DG-fans!!
IMAGINE this song released as signed and limited christmas EP... Without any guitar.. Only with Robbie, Caroline and Niamh.. This would be the best present I can imagine!! I would even love a post-christmas EP.. And would even take it as Download... I mean David is on tour actually.. :D

As I wrote in the thread for his performance in Cologne at the Gloria:
He performed it solo. He said that playing this song is like sitting hours in front of a painting by Mark Chagall..

So this picture here might be his source of inspiration:

    It's called "Over The Town"...

@John: I think you are right at most parts. The word you are missing could be "morphem", but I am not sure about "gambling it all too much". I think it's the wrong word, but cannot figure out what it really is...........:meh:

Hi John, I listened over and over but can't make out those parts either. In that third stanza could "dark" be "dock"?
I would correct the next line to "Let for that old regret"

That "gambling" word I think is more than one word and maybe "in it all too much, etc.........

Beyond all that pure poetry heh? Never get tired of it!!

    Hi all,
@carmel: I thought of that one line it would be "Let fall that old regret"....
first line to me is "I had but half of live"
last part of the story to me is always "I" and "me", not "we"
and about that "gambling"- thing, I always hear a word starting with "th" at the beginning.........o_O

Getting me completely nuts....... meanwhile listening to David one BBC Radio2

    Love, Birdie

@Amanda S - thought about it too, but what should it mean? Is it slang? Can't find any translations... :/

    I agree "mothy," like moths.

This seems legit. Thought that it comes from moths - but as I said I could not find any translations.. But finally @@RosalieEP@@Amanda S it makes sense ^^

You're right and wrong: David changed the lyrics from I to we in 2013/14. If you ask me it was the right move for the songs atmosphere.. So the final version is the one with "we" and the second video I've posted ;)

Mhmm, there will be always compromises in the studio.. But think about all the other love songs which were recorded.. This Years Love sounds live 10000 times more beautiful than on White Ladder.. But it's quiet really good as recording. What I want to say is that it's important for the song to be recorded on cd, even when it's pretty clear that it won't be so magical as performed live.. But this song would be definitely a highlight on the next record.
And yeah.. The present was soo nice.. I wrote David on all social medias to play it in cologne - and it seems that he heard me then.. ;)

And you are all right with "Damn but ain't it all too much to take, yeah - Damn but ain't it all too much" @thefox @carmel59 @Birdie.. I was not glad with gambling as well.. but my eyes could'nt find the right words the more I've searched.. :D

So thank you all - I think we made this pretty well.. This is a must for the next album!!
    The corrected lyrics are:

I had but half from life
    Before I went with you
Up to the roof and dived
    Into the starry blue
Over the lights of the town
Dancing with both feet off the ground

@John: ok then, other love songs had been recorded; sure. But in most cases we knew the studio versions before the live version, so it was easier to deal with. There will be no chance of changing my mind on that - it will never be the deeply heartfelt one that it is now.

    Love, Birdie

Sorry to revive such an old thread but I have to say that my heart broke when I saw the album tracks listed and didn’t see this on the new album. After hearing the album I get it, I do!! But.... I still love it and have a little kernel of hope (I am stubborn, okay?!?!) that it will still come out someday (hoping as a solo, not duet). If not, well, at least this beautiful, beautiful song was ever created and heard and lives on in the videos and fan recordings that have been shared.

I've just been thinking the same thing and googled the song to see if perchance I missed any recent news about it.
Didn't expect to land on this somewhat old thread and see new life having been breathed into it :)
